Featured Business: Glyde House

Glyde house has been a member of the Yorkshire Events Network for a considerable amount of time.  David Robertson-Brown, Director at Glyde House, agreed to answer a few questions so we can gain a better insight into the company.

  A background on Glyde House

Glyde House is a lovely grade 2 listed building next to the National Media Museum, Alhambra   Theatre and City Park in Bradford city centre. It's where 'Business Meets Pleasure' with a vibrant business centre and quirky leisure space. The ground floor hosts a lounge area, meeting room, function room, snooker room and fully licensed bar. The first floor contains 16 rentable offices currently including an MP, doctor, lawyer, architect, software developer, web agencies, video production and recruitment agency, etc.

Key services and what makes Glyde House stand out from the crowd

We have different services for different customer types, at different hours of the day and on different days of the week! For example, our offices are mostly let to small businesses who book our meeting rooms and organise training events mostly during the day. We then attract other city centre workers to our bar after work before going home or to attend one of our regular events for comedy, music, poker, snooker or to watch a film. Our new private members club is also attracting residents who come to Bradford for shopping or to visit a neighbouring attraction. Somehow, it all seems to fit.

  Recent successes

We're only a small venue so we're absolutely delighted to start getting repeat bookings from blue chip companies.

Issue(s) that events businesses face currently

Complacency - There are a lot of rectangular boxes (rooms) out there to hire for events. Venues need to position themselves and somehow add value to differentiate.

How does the company utlise social media?

As a tiny business, we us social media to get to our potential customers quickly and cheaply. We're delighted when customers walk through the door, telephone us, write to us or email us. So if they want to communicate via FaceBook or Twitter, we're really happy with that.
